USB Type-C™ (also known as USB-C™) is a new Cable and Connector Specification that is a supplement to the SuperSpeed USB 3.1 specification. The terms USB Type-C™ and USB 3.1 are not interchangeable. Some USB Type-C™ products may indicate if they support the USB 3.1 specification. Products that supports USB 3.1 Gen 1 support signals at 5 Gbps; USB 3.1 Gen 2 support signals at 10 Gbps. USB Type-C™ products do not have to adopt the speed or power specifications of USB 3.0 or USB 3.1.
The USB Type-C™ connector features a reversible, slim, sleek and robust connector. Products that are compliant with the USB Type-C™ specification may include cables, adapters, hubs, docking stations, dongles, thumb drives, wall plugs, hub controllers and others.
The USB Type-C™ is not the same as "USB Power Delivery" protocol that increases USB power capablities up to 100W. Some USB Type-C™ products may indicate if they support USB Power Delivery.
